In sixth grade my teacher loathed me. Truly, ask my Mom. But one day she handed my assignment back and at the top, scrawled in thick red, “very good story” with the highest marks I’d ever gotten or would ever get from her. And though I barely scraped by in most subjects, I realized words were my best medium.
